It sounds like a small thing, and it is — most adults measure somewhere in the mid-50s to low-70s, with around 63 mm being typical. There are three reasonable ways to do this, and none of them need special equipment. Which one you pick depends on what's within arm's reach.
How to measure pupillary distance with a ruler
The old-school method: stand about 20 cm from a mirror, close your right eye, and line the 0 mm mark of a ruler up with the center of your left pupil. Then open the right eye, close the left, and read the number over the center of your right pupil. Keep your head perfectly still throughout — head movement, not reading error, is what throws most people off.
